Abdullah Gül University (AGU) celebrated Persons With Disabilities Week, a special week celebrated in 156 countries, with the theme "Colors of Life, Touches without Barriers".
The celebration activities at AGU were carried out in collaboration with the Kayseri Provincial Directorate of National Education, Kocasinan District Directorate of National Education, Kocasinan Guidance and Research Center (RAM), and Hacı Mustafa Postaağası Special Education Vocational School.
The events held at Sümer Campus in architecture studios, central research laboratory, in front of the fitness center, and various workshops lasted for 4 days.
On the first day of the activities, Ebru art was taught to students of Hacı Mustafa Postaağası Special Education Vocational School through a workshop.
On the second day, students were guided to create various designs with models in the architecture studio, and a training on the use of 3D printers was provided in the central research laboratory.
On the third day, in front of the fitness center, AGU instructor Hülya Öztürk gave zumba dance training, including basic step-aerobic exercises. The students, under Öztürk's guidance, also played bocce, a game and sport played with iron balls.
On the final day of the celebrations in the Rectorate Conference Hall, students from Hacı Mustafa Postaağası Special Education Vocational School enjoyed performances by their own Janissary band, including heroic marches, folk dances, music, and dance shows.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yılmaz, the Rector, stated that the Week celebration activities were one of the most meaningful events held at AGU Sümer Campus. He expressed his gratitude to the valuable students who received various training in Ebru art, model design, 3D printer usage, and design reproduction, as well as to all institutions, organizations, and employees who contributed to the activities.
Provincial Director of National Education Bahameddin Karaköse emphasized that Abdullah Gül University not only opened opportunities but also opened its heart to students as part of the Inclusive University. He thanked everyone involved in organizing the activities. Karaköse said, "Our disabled individuals are just like us, human beings; they just have some differences. These differences are never a problem for us; they are richness for us."
At the end of the celebration program, students who participated in various training sessions for four days received their diplomas and were dressed in AGU gowns. Later, the works of art created by students from Hacı Mustafa Postaağası Special Education Vocational School throughout the year were exhibited in the end-of-year exhibition in the foyer area in front of the conference hall.
The celebration program was attended by Kayseri District Governor İlhan Abay, Kocasinan District Director of National Education Adnan Göllüoğlu, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Erk Hacıhasanoğlu, Provincial Immigration Director Ahmet Danışman, AGU General Secretary Osman Yıldırım, representatives of NGOs, school directors, teachers, students, parents, and many other invited guests.
